BOLTON born, Nat became the town's favourite sporting son.

The most feared centre-forward of his time, wearing the white shirt of Wanderers and England with pride, he scored a record 30 goals in 33 internationals. Footballer of the Year in 1953, when he featured in the dramatic FA Cup Final defeat by Blackpool, he was back at Wembley five years later, skipper and two-goal hero of the victory over Manchester United. Injury ended his career in 1960 but the club's record scorer went on to serve Wanderers as coach, manager, chief scout and latterly as president.
