Falling numbers Post Office to close
A FALL in the number of customers has forced the closure of an Atherton sub-post office.
The Wigan Road post office will close its doors on Wednesday, April 9, just three weeks after Hindsford post office shuts its door for the last time.
Eddie Herbert, the Post Office's area head, said: "A declining number of customers, increased running costs and the prospect of even less business when benefits payments are transferred from passbooks to bank accounts, prompted the sub-postmaster to want to leave at Wigan Road.
"Atherton post office in Market Street and Hindley Green (Atherton Road) are both within 1.1 miles of Wigan Road and can cope with the extra business."
The Post Office has asked us to point out that no decision has yet been taken on Darcy Lever post office which is still open for business.
