A WOMAN was hurt after she tried to stop a car leaving the scene of an accident in Bolton.

Jeanette Harrison, from Little Lever, suffered a sprained ankle and a minor head injury when she was hit by a blue Ford Mondeo.

Mrs Harrison, aged 55, was travelling with her Granville, aged 60, in their Rover 214 in Weston Street, Great Lever, at 4.50pm yesterday and the Mondeo was behind them.

As the cars slowed down in traffic, an Astra van crashed into the back of the Mondeo, driven by a man, which in turn collided with the rear of the Rover.

As the Mondeo tried to drive away, Mrs Harrison jumped out of her seat and was left lying in the road as she tried to stop it. The male driver of the Astra van also fled the scene on foot.

Mrs Harrison was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital and released after treatment.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident and anyone with information about the drivers of the Mondeo and the van to come forward.

A spokesman said: "We are keen to trace the two male drivers who left the scene along with the Ford Mondeo, which will have extensive damage.

"This woman was fortunate that her injuries were not more serious and I would ask anyone who may have seen the car within the area to contact us."

Anyone with information should call Bolton Traffic Police on 0161 856 5972.
