MAY I pen my response to the reply to my letter submitted by Simon Nightingale (February 27) regarding school ground car parking.

My observation related to a present-day situation, whereas Simon chose to counter on a theme of looking back, ie some 20 to 25 years, and failed to make one relevant point.

Times have changed, Simon -- or hadn't you noticed?

He refers to school grounds not having parking facilities at that time.

Precisely my points. Now they have, hence the gist of my letter.

Incidentally, I challenge your insinuation that my scooter -- as you put it -- was parked in a play area. Untrue, as it was against the rules at that time, also the headmaster would not have allowed it.

The non-dismissible fact is that, if the many hundreds of cars parked within school grounds -- which, after all, is council parking space -- suddenly had this somewhat cossetted premise disallowed, and staff had to find street parking spaces, I doubt the school day would ever get under way.

Therefore, Simon, I stand my ground, and reiterate a nominal levy would be fair.
