The concert will take place at the Albert Halls, Bolton, and will feature local virtuoso Andy Wyatt, soloist in Vaughan Williams' Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra. Andy was a founder member of Bolton Symphony Orchestra and regularly plays with local ensembles, including Corus Brass and Wingates Band. Over the years he has also performed with some of the country's top bands, including Besses o'th' Barn, Britannia Building Society and Brighouse and Rastrick bands. He has been broadcast live on radio, won competitions and played with such greats as Roy Castle and Johnny Morris.
Guest conductor Mark Heron returns after a successful performance with Bolton Sinfonietta last year. He has recently given his professional debut with the Pori Sinfonietta in Finland, and his engagements for 2003 include work in Chicago and Sweden.
The concert will begin with Prelude and Scherzo, Hammersmith by Gustav Holst, followed by the tuba concerto and ending with Elgar's much loved Symphony No 2.
