POLICE swooped on homes across Oldham in dawn raids today and arrested 15 men and two women under Operation Barron, a major crackdown on crime.

More than 100 officers raided 14 homes in Glodwick, Clarksfield, Holts, Hathershaw, Fitton Hill, Derker and Littlemoor from 6am.

Police say more than 200 people are on a targeted 'hit list' following intelligence gathered from residents. Further arrests are planned to target burglars, thieves and drug dealers.

Oldham's Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent David Baines said: "Today is the first step in what is our long term commitment to respond and act to crime."
