MATCHES in the John Smiths Farnworth Winter Rounders League fell victim to the weather again this week.

The Halliwell League organisers decided their matches at Barlow Park in the afternoon should go ahead but top teams Smithills Coaching House and Darcy XI did not play because the pitch was considered dangerous.

Morris Roofing conceded their match against Hulton Lane Ladies B because they could not raise a team, while the remaining four matches were played on hard and slippery pitches.

Players, recognising the dangers, ran with caution and, despite the odd fall, there were no injuries.

With Morris Roofing conceding, Westhoughton and District's 21-run win over Boundary Ladies elevated them to joint second place in the table.

Lower Pools only pulled back 13 of the 40-run handicap in the first innings against Hulton Lane Ladies but turned the tables in the second innings to win by three runs and move up into fifth place.

Pineaple XI had a ten-run start against Farmers XI and won by 11 to make the pair level on points along with Bolton Lads and Girls Club, losers by 14 runs to Cheetham Ladies who started with a 20 run advantage.

TEAMS in Section B of the Farnworth League should note that the Volunteer team has withdrawn from the league because injuries and changed work patterns have resulted in then being unable to field more than five players.
