THE people of Westhoughton have said farewell to the oldest paperboy in the town.
Tommy McLean, aged 75, ensured his customers received their Bolton Evening News for 13 years, right up until he collapsed on his way to Wood Newsagents.
In all weathers, Mr McLean reported to the Market Street shop twice a day, six days a week, for his morning deliveries to The Welland area and his evening round in Park Road.
He was on his way to pick up his afternoon papers when he collapsed in the street, breaking his shoulder, and was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.
He developed pneumonia and died earlier this month.
His employer Ken Wood, aged 57, said: "Tommy worked for us since I took over 11 years ago and never let me down. He was extremely reliable.
"He is already being missed and will be very difficult to replace. I'm doing the deliveries myself at the moment."
The funeral and committal took place on Monday at Overdale Crematorium.
