WOMEN are being encouraged to join the former Bury Woman of the Year in this year's Great North Run.
Veteran runner Marie Caldwell will be running alongside members of staff from Bury Hospice, for whom she is raising money.
She said: "I was asked to organise a training programme and filled with enthusiasm, I started thinking how I could co-ordinate the whole thing. It was then that I realised that I was expected to take part."
Marie, who lives in Hawkshaw, added: "As I have not run anything shorter than a marathon for about ten years, I will have to get stuck in doing some speed work."
Ladies who wish to join in the fundraising feat should be aged over 17. Send your name, age, address and telephone number to Marie Caldwell c/o The Hospice Fund-raising Office, 89 The Rock, Bury.
"Non-runners are welcome as there is ample time for training until September," said Marie.
