THE first park ranger for decades is to be appointed by Bury council, and others could follow.
Jim Wynn's task will be to provide an obvious official presence at the town's Openshaw Park, hopefully to encourage greater use of the park.
Cllr Trevor Holt, said: "Having a park ranger will not just help to make users of the park feel safer, but it will we hope, encourage even more people to come along."
The ranger will patrol early afternoon until early evening every day of the week. His duties will include checking for vandalism and carrying out repairs. Jim will be based in the Ladies Pavilion, at the park's bowling green.
