BOLTON businessmen with staff in the Territorial Army are being offered advice about what to do if war breaks out with Iraq.

The Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) has set up a hotline so they can find out about employment rights and compensation if workers get call-up papers.

Lt Col Ian Sawers, deputy chief executive of the RFCA North-west, said: "Many employers may be unsure of their rights and responsibilities under the Reserve Forces Act 1996. They may be entitled to compensation under the act. It is important they receive it."

The association will also be able to advise employers about their responsibilities to re-employ soldiers after demobilisation.

Reservists will also be able to get advice about their right to return to work after coming back from the Gulf.

Employer support executive Ian Rankine said: "While no decision has been taken to commit UK forces to military action against Iraq, compulsory mobilisation is considered as part of normal, prudent contingency planning."

Employers and reservists can contact Mr Rankine at the association office on 0151 727 4552.
