Wanderers star Colin Hendry and his wife Denise last night relived the dramatic moment when she began to come out of a coma.

Denise had been left in a coma after a liposuction operation went wrong.

The couple, speaking on ITV's Tonight programme, told how, after four weeks of unconsciousness, Denise's eyes began flickering when she heard on the television news about her son, Kyle, scoring a goal in a youth football match.

Denise revealed how she now regrets deciding to go ahead with cosmetic surgery. She said her story should serve as a warning to others.

At one stag,e doctors believed she had only a two to five per cent chance of surviving after developing multi organ failure following the operation at a private clinic near Preston.

Denise, aged 36, decided to go ahead with the surgery to flatten her stomach after the birth of her four children. She booked into the Broughton Park Private Hospital for the £2,400 operation, but during the procedure her bowel was perforated eight times and her colon once.

She was left fighting for life in intensive care. Colin Hendry, who is on loan from Wanderers to Blackpool, said her heart stopped beating for four minutes. After six months she was allowed home, but is still battling to regain her former health. The family is now planning legal action.
