From the Evening News, January 9, 1993: A NURSE whose car was wheel-clamped on hospital grounds as she dealt with an emergency has threatened her bosses with legal action.

Chris Woodbridge says she will seek legal advice if they fail to refund her £10 fine.

She has launched a campaign against inconsiderate parking by outpatients and visitors, which she blames for the incident, and says that she was forced to park on a reserved pink zone after finding that designated staff places were taken by visitors' cars.

And she says she was still dealing with the emergency patients two hours later when she was informed of the clamping.

BOLTON town centre shoppers are "dicing with death" by not using the crossings provided.

Today road safety officials and police hit out at pedestrians who ignore the safety at crossings at the traffic signals on Deansgate, and go jay-walking on one of the busiest roads in the town.

"IS it on, or is it off?"

That was the big question for thousands of Bolton fans today.

Scores of them rang the Wanderers' headquarters at Burnden Park and the Evening News' office to find the answer.

The answer, given by the referee at 1.30pm, was that the FA Cup tie against Fulham was postponed.

With the thaw, a new threat presented itself. It came creeping down from the hills, over the fields and into the streets -- a murky fog which cut down visibility to a few yards.

THE inhabitants of Eagley were startled about two o'clock on Friday afternoon by an event which fortunately was attended with no serious results.

A lurry and two horses, belonging to Messrs. Jno. Entwistle, carrier, Bolton, engaged carrying raw cotton from Bromley Cross Station to Messrs Jas. Chadwick and Bros., Eagley Mills, was proceeding down Hough-lane, when the brake broke, and the driver was unable to keep his horses in check.

They, with the vehicle, dashed down the road, and were only brought to a standstill by colliding with the boundary of the wall of the Eagley brook.

The driver fortunately escaped injury, but one horse was precipitated over the wall, happily sustaining no serious injuries.
