MAY I express my appreciation of the help I received when my car bonnet caught fire on the evening of Christmas Day.
Travelling towards Bolton, along Bradford Street, a passing motorist drew my attention to the flames and promptly phoned the emergency services. In a matter of minutes our great fire brigade arrived, followed by two extremely helpful policemen.
Soon a group of young people from our Asian community were milling around trying to help. One ran for water, another borrowed a fire extinguisher, and another gentleman stopped his car and offered his mobile phone so that I could contact a member of my family.
The swift action of all those involved averted an explosion, of this I am sure.
Our police and fire brigade deserve every penny they earn and, to the young men who came to my assistance, I offer my heartfelt thanks.
