A TEENAGER and her two friends are thought to have accidentally started a bedroom blaze after forgetting to stub out a cigarette. They left the teenager's family home in Pilkington Road, Kearsley, to go for a walk just after midnight today.
A few minutes later, her mother and father realised the house was on fire and ran upstairs to discover the bedroom was ablaze.
Four firefighters wearing breathing kits went into the semi-detached house and put out the flames. Station officer Neil Mercer from Farnworth Fire Station said: "Unfortunately, we had to rip up floorboards and pull down part of the ceiling to make sure the fire had not spread."
"However, the fire crew did a good job in preventing the fire from getting into the roof and reaching the neighbouring house."
