ELDERLY residents at two closure-threatened care homes are to get their say in the plans before any final decisions are made. Bury Council wants to close Warthfield in Bury and Whittaker House in Radcliffe and a public consultation exercise is now underway until next month.

The closure announcements were made early last year when the council said it was closing the homes in line with Government legislation but campaigners won a judicial review -- quashing the council's decision on the grounds that it did not consult enough people.

Eleni Ioannides, Bury Council's Director of Social Services, Health and Housing, said she accepted the decision, but added: "If we are to improve our older people's services, then the closure of some of our existing homes is highly likely."
