WIDNES Vikings will entertain Sydney Roosters in what they say will be a "demanding training session" as the Australian champions prepare for the World Club Challenge with St Helens at the Reebok.
The session will take place at Halton Stadium on Monday, February 10 - four days before the Roosters take on the Super League champions at Bolton.
Widnes have come up with the idea of a "scrimmage" game after they were refused permission to play a full friendly with the Roosters. It will be played between full teams in kit, but without full tackling and will last 30 minutes each way.
The session will only be open to Vikings season ticket-holders and those who purchase tickets for the ensuing gala dinner.
"It is a great honour for the club to entertain the Australian champions and the scrimmage game will prove an unexpected bonus to those of our fans who have purchased season tickets," said media manager Andrew Kirchin.
"Neil Kelly and our players are looking forward to the session and, though it is not a full-contact match, they will all be trying hard to outwit their opponents."
