Penrith 20 Tyldesley 0

TYLDESLEY made a 200 mile round trip visit to second placed Cumbrian outfit Penrith, where freezing conditions and a blanket of snow hardly provided a warm welcome.

A early Penrith penalty was added to a few minutes later by a sucker punch try before Tyldesley tried to get back in the game with the Pulman brothers, Shaun and Craig, threatening to break the strong Cumbrian defence on several occasions.

However with few attacking options Tyldesley were forced into defensive mode with Stewart Manning and Andrew Simpson particularly effective but with a minute remaining before half-time the referee failed to see a knock on and the home side took advantage scoring another try for a 13-0 lead.

The second period saw Tyldesley try to get into the game but lack of ball proved the main reason behind their failure to trouble the Penrith line.

Good tackling stifled the home side until ten minutes from the endwhen the Penrith forwards powered over for a converted try.

Sadly in the final minute another Penrith attack was snubbed out but in making the final tackle, centre Adam Fetherston broke his leg in two places which saw him spend the weekend in Carlisle Hospital.

Tyldesley Knights lost 23-5 to Blackburn but scored the best try of the game through Rick Pennington.

Tyldesley Dragons visited neighbours Leigh and came away with a well earned 25-7 victory, Joe Dillon scoring two tries.
