BOLTON'S first pole dancing club has been given the go-ahead to open in the town centre.

Young men and women dancers are to be recruited at The Office, on Manor Street, to dance around a pole wearing sexy outfits.

For the girls that will mean a bra, hotpants and sometimes tight, lycra trousers, and for the men, a pair of shorts.

Licensing chiefs unanimously approved the move at a meeting yesterday afternoon after hearing the club would have "nothing sleazy."

Speaking after the decision, Jenna Grundy, daughter of owner Barry Grundy, said: "To be honest, we're struggling to attract customers and we need a gimmick to bring people in.

"We're basically just going to have a couple of poles for dancers of both sexes to use and I'm delighted that the licence has been granted."

The performers will be chaperoned by security staff at all times and they will work for 20 minute periods at a time.

Mr Grundy claims the idea for a pole dancing club came from customers who suggested it would bring in more business earlier in the evening for the two-storey bar.

Daubhill Labour councillor Tom Anderton urged The Office bosses to stick rigidly to the rules. Licensing chiefs gave the club the nod on condition the entertainers do not dance nude.

Dancers will be recruited by late next month.

Bolton Council's Licensing and Environmental Regulation Committee will soon deal with an application to open a lap dancing club in the town centre.

Paul Roberts, who runs Bar Juice in Nelson Square, wants to use the second floor of the building for the controversial club.
