WHAT a wonderful headline (January 6) informing us that the security cameras in Bolton are now working.
Now come with me to the outskirts of town in Westhoughton where, over the New Year festive time, six of the shop windows in Market Street were smashed -- although the street is amply covered by CCT cameras.
The people of the town are now asking if the culprits have been captured by these cameras, or is their use useless? A lot of questions need to be answered by the authorities -- ie. were there any arrests, were the cameras working at the time, who is taking up the chattels of the shopkeepers, will the insurance people take this further?
Until these questions are answered, the people of Westhoughton will not lie peacefully in their beds.
