THE death of former Bolton MP David Young leaves both this town and politics the poorer.
Whether you agreed with his views or not, he was a man who stood by his principles even when this meant he lost out personally.
He worked hard and effectively for hundreds of local people during his long career -- he was first elected to the old Bolton East seat in 1974 and became MP for the new Bolton South-east constituency in 1983.
At times he was an electrifying speaker; his gravelly Scottish tones could always be heard above any others.
David Young was an MP of the old school who devoted his life to his beliefs, and our condolences to go his loyal wife Vera. He leaves a warm legacy in his wake.
