Q: I am considering doing a detox programme now it's New Year, what can you recommend?

A. When doing a detox it is essential not to starve your body of essential nutrients. Eat more organic and raw foods, increase foods high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Eat small meals of either food groups eg. proteins (meat, fish, beans) or starches (rice, pasta, bread, potatoes) at different meal times. Drink ginger tea before a meal to boost digestion. Don't forget to also detox your kitchen by removing food containing saturated fats and sugars, and your bathroom cabinet from all products which contain chemicals, replace with organic natural ingredients supporting health and the environment. Take 20 minutes a day to exfoliate, moisturise, and listen to a meditation CD for positive affirmation. I recommend you read the Natural Care Detox handbook by Dr Jennifer Harper.
