NEW speed limits came into force on a Bolton estate on Monday.
Motorists will be limited to 20mph, instead of the current 30mph, on the Johnson Fold estate.
A 20mph speed limit is being introduced in residential areas across Bolton to cut the number of road accidents. Road humps will be brought in to ensure drivers follow the speed limit.
Johnson Fold has been chosen to pilot the scheme because of complaints from residents about speeding motorists.
Bolton is believed to be the first town in the country to begin introducing such widespread traffic calming measures.
The council will be eligible to apply through a Government scheme for extra money to help to pay for the scheme.
The Government itself has set targets for reducing injuries on the road.
Anyone who objects to the speed restrictions in Johnson Fold can write, by February 14, to the High Court to lodge a protest.
