TWELVE brave divers took to the chilly waters of a Bolton reservoir to toast the New Year.
Members of the Bolton Sub-Aqua Club went to High Rid reservoir in Lostock for a morning dive, where they drank Bucks Fizz and enjoyed a barbecue to welcome in 2003.
Martin Cooper, the club's training officer, said: "You've got to be a bit daft to go diving in the UK because it is so cold, but we felt that it was a nice way to begin the New Year.
"Some of the lads were nursing festive hangovers, but a dip in the reservoir soon sobered them up."
The club nearly folded after the closure of the Water Place swimming complex -- it was the club's base -- but it survived after members found a new home at Smithills pool.
Anyone interested in joining the club can contact Martin Cooper on 01772 626400 during office hours.
