HERE'S a New Year's resolution which the Cleansing and Sewage Committee thinks will not be too difficult for anyone - to keep the streets of Bolton clean and tidy from now until December 31st, 1953 and thereafter. People cannot keep the roads clear of spot and fog deposit, but with a little thought they can keep litter off the streets. The chairman of the committee (Counc. B. Hawksworth) says: "In the town centre, waste paper, chip potato papers, bus tickets, tobacco and chocolate wrappings, cigarette and match boxes, ice-cream containers and other wrappers are thoughtlessly thrown onto the pavements."

THE little girl, Mary Sidebotham, the six-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel Sidebotham, of 6, Tredgold-st., Horwich, who was admitted to the Bolton Royal Infirmary yesterday morning, suffering from severe burns all over her body, died in the institution at eight o'clock at night.

The unfortunate girl had been wearing a flannelette nightdress when it became ignited about nine o'clock on Friday morning. Much sympathy is felt for the parents of the deceased girl, who are well-known and highly respected in the locality.
