A course on the history of working-class life is being held by the WEA (Workers' Educational Association), Bolton branch starting Tuesday, January 7, at the Bolton Central Library Meeting Room.

The aim of the course, called "An Introduction to the Local History of 19th and 20th Century Bolton", is to approach the study of "modern" history in a local context. By focusing on the locality and Bolton's social, political and cultural history, the course will attempt to understand how ordinary people lived.

There will be 11 meetings, 1.45pm to 3.45pm, and the cost is £39.60, (C) £31.90, (R) £7.

If you wish to enrol for the course, you can contact Mr Keith Povey (Enrolment Secretary) on 01204 304111.

You may wish to contact Mr Povey about two other courses. "Railway History" (lively discussions about the railway age, with slides, maps, diagrams and videos) starts on Thursday, January 9, also at the Central Library Meeting Room, (11 meetings, 7pm to 9pm, with costs the same as above); or "Rome: Republic to Empire Roman Archaeology), 11 meetings, same venue, starting on January 9, 1.30pm to 3.30pm, costs as above. This course will "examine the last days of the Republic; gang warfare, civil war, etc.; also the rise of Augustus and his changes to Rome and the Empire."
