THE Pilot Works on Manchester Road, Bolton, was well-known, and this picture, sent to me by Ron and Ethel Bates, former Boltonians who now live in Australia, was taken in February, 1945.
They write: "The contract for building army vehicles was finished, and the picture shows Government officials and new agents from across the UK, promoting Pilot Works tipping gear and bodies."
