HAVING been involved in a number of clean up campaigns in the Borough, I have come to the conclusion that those people who drop litter are simply lazy individuals, often of low intelligence.

Clearly, they have no regard for others, or their environment.

Judging by the type of litter found, most of it is obviously dropped by young people/adults including drinks cans, crisp and sweet packets, while adults tend to throw cigarette ends and packets everywhere. Why on earth do they bother to put ashtrays in cars nowadays? I don't know, as most smoking motorists throw their cigarettes from their cars, especially at road junctions. How lazy can you get!

The other big problem is chewing gum, which has defaced most of the pavements in the borough, especially in the town centre, which is another problem for the Council to tackle.

While Bolton is not a wealthy place, there is clearly no need for us to all live in the filthy state that we currently have to. Perhaps our over zealous traffic wardens could be put to better use chasing those who drop litter. They would certainly make far more money for the Town Hall than they do by chasing motorists!

I think its about time, that some serious discipline was injected back into society and an example made of those who choose to make life unpleasant for the rest of us.
