Horwich RMI Harriers' girls squad put on a great display in in the second Manchester Sports Hall Athletics League fixture at Manchesters Dome.

For the second meeting in a row, Katherine Eccles won the Under 11 standing long jump, with 1.90m, and the vertical jump with 47cm.

In the U13 section there was a double first in the A and B string standing long jump with Alyce Eccles and Lucy Hindley coming out on top (2.01 and 2.18m respectively).

Alyce also made the two lap final where she came third having set a seasons personal best in the heats of 27.6.

In the U15 there was victory again for Kirsty Milner in the six-lap time trial in 1.33.2, lowering her best by 1.1 seconds.

At the end of the day the U11s were still in second place behind league leaders Wigan, with the U13s moving up into third spot.

Tony Hesketh finished a terrific first veteran runner in last Sunday's five mile (900) David Staff Memorial Fell Race at Darwen. Tony, who is a vet 50, came 15th overall, while Horwich men won the team award.

In the last of the South East Lancashire Cross Country fixtures, held in Oldham last Saturday, it was the Horwich ladies who once more swept the board in the team competitions.

They recorded victories in the Senior Ladies, Ladies Over 35s and Ladies O40 categories.

Suzanne Budgett continued her terrific season with a fine fourth place, second L35. She was well backed up by Jenny Abbott in seventh, second junior lady. Sarah Gorman and Gaynor Higson had a terrific battle, finishing 11th and 12th respectively.

In the men's race, youngster Anthony Hallahan continued his recent return to form, being Horwich's first to finish in 12th place. Paul Murray was an excellent second V60 in 55th place overall.
