RIGHT or left? Take your pick, Dougie played for Wanderers on both wings - right in the 1953 FA Cup Final defeat by Blackpool, left in the victory over Manchester United five years later.
Manchester-born, he signed for Wanderers in 1948 and made his league debut at Anfield in November 1951 after playing just 12 games in the reserves. Amazingly consistent, he was ever-present in the First Division in three seasons - 53-54, 56-57 and 59-60 - and his talent was recognised in 1959 when he won Football League honours and the first of five England caps. He made his third appearance in an FA Cup Final for Preston when they lost to West Ham in 1964 and later emigratred to Australia, where he played for the national team.
Appearances: 463. Goals 44.
