A BIG crowd favourite as a tough-tackling, no-nonsense but talented half-back, the boy from Birkenhead joined Wanderers as a 15-year-old and progressed through the ranks before securing his place in the Division One side of the early Sixties.
He twice suffered the disappointment of relegation but he was instrumental in helping Wanderers stop the slide and become upwardly mobile again when he skippered the team to the old Third Division championship in 1973 - ever present for the fourth time in his outstanding Burnden career. That year he was awarded a testimonial for his services to the club and played on for another two seasons before leaving for Crewe.
Appearances: 528. Goals: 17.
