ALTHOUGH never capped (he made Don Revie's England squad) Jones was a defender against whom all modern day Wanderers' centre-backs are judged.
Talented, stylish he was unfortunate to play at a time when England had a wealth of No 5s. Having been given his debut by Nat Lofthouse - one of seven teenagers in the team that famously beat a strong Sheffield United side in January 1971 - he suffered relegation early in his career but went on to feature in the promotion successes which put Wanderers back into the big time and gave him the stage on which to display his considerable talents. He suffered relegation twice more before joining Huddersfield in May 1982.
Appearances: 506. Goals: 43.
