THE funeral of a Radcliffe man who was battered to death outside a karaoke bar is to take place on Monday.

Shane Eckersley was punched several times in the face in a fight outside the Saigon in Lower Broughton Road, Pendleton, Salford on November 22.

The 40-year-old from Gingham Park suffered head injuries and died less than 48 hours later.

A service and committal will be held at Overdale West Chapel at noon.

He also leaves behind a 12-year-old son Sean. He was separated from his wife.

His mother Dorothy made an emotional appeal for information following her son's brutal murder.

She urged witnesses to come forward to help the police find her son's killer.

His 23-year-old friend who had spent the night with him drinking in the Saigon suffered a fractured ankle and neck injury.

Mr Eckersley, who was trained as a joiner, was born and brought up in Horwich.

He had had been a volunteer at the drug and alcohol abuse day centre for Rehabilitation, Arts, Further Education and Training at Prestwich where he had been teaching woodwork.

The family have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Prestwich-based Turning Point charity.

Detectives are still hunting the father-of-one's killer.

Six people were interviewed and released without charge earlier this month.

Anyone with information about the attack should call the incident room on 0161 856 5153.
