EVERYONE knows that the Indonesian Island of Krakatoa blew its top in 1883, killing 40,000 people and creating a tidal wave of such strength that ripples were felt off Bognor Regis.
"Krakatoa East Of Java" is, therefore, one of the first true disaster movies which predated the modern genre by a few years.
The problem is, it's a long haul before nature roughly intrudes into the film.
The big bang, when it comes, is an eye-jarring explosion made all the more spectacular by the fact that, in 1969 computer generated special effects were just a twinkle in Microsoft's eye.
As one of the best (worst?) film screw-ups in history what is wrong with the film's title?
