BURY Amateur Boxing Club's Amir Khan once again proved his undoubted class in clinching the 2002 National Boys Club title at Middleton Civic Hall last weekend.

It was the talented 15-year-old's first appearance in the competition which took in competitors from all over the British Isles.

The final, against Marcus Poston of Harwich ABC was scheduled for three two minute rounds but Amir's superior technique and speed brought proceedings to a close after 1 minute 20 seconds of the first round.

Poston received a standing count early in the bout after Amir caught him with a right hook and soon afterwards the referee was forced to step in to save the Essex boy further punishment.

But the night didn't stop there for the local lad as he was also recognised by the judges as the best boxer of the night and picked up a separate trophy for that accolade.

Coach Mike Jelley and father Shajaad Khan were both delighted with Amir's display and he now has his eyes on the National Schoolboys' Championships and National Youth ABC Championships next year.
