NOW you may think that the opportunity of watching 64 live football matches in a period of just 31 days would be more than enough.

But when it comes to the World Cup, I want more. For people that feel like me, I can strongly recommend the Classic Matches series on BBC Interactive that start at around 10.30pm each night.

And although I have thoroughly enjoyed this year's competition, the best football match that I have watched recently was the epic encounter between Brazil and Italy from 1982.

The Brazilians included legends Zico and Socrates, but were outfoxed by a magnificent hat-trick by Paulo Rossi.

Despite the excellent football, what struck me was how poor the coverage of the game was.

Falcao's solo goal was captured by all of two cameras. In contrast a pretty irrelevant goal by Senegal yesterday was replayed from seven different angles.

Even the commentary of John Motson and Bobby Charlton at the 1982 game seemed off the pace, compared to the well researched words we have come to expect in 2002.

While we may often mock the TV companies - remember the stick ITV's The Premiership received at the start of the season - we are truly spoiled with the coverage we enjoy today.
