TRANSPORT advisers have set up a hotline to advise Games visitors exactly how to get to venues.

GMPTE's personalised journey planning service is designed to make sure nobody tries to travel by car.

Visitors are being encouraged to leave their cars at home, or at one of the 8,000 parking spaces available at major Park and Ride sites on the edge of the city, and make the journey to Games venues by public transport.

All spectators need to do is ring the Greater Manchester Public Transport Information Line on 0161-228 7811, (8am -8pm and open 24 hours a day from 15th July) and transport advisors will recommend the most suitable transport options for any particular journey.

Alternatively, spectators can try out the GMPTE journey planner at www.gmpte.com HERE.

Keith Howcroft, GMPTE's Director of Planning and Communications, said: "We want to get as many people as possible travelling to the Games by public transport. Other than limited parking for disabled people there is no parking at Games venues so taking the car is not going to be an option.

"We'll have more buses, trains and trams running round the city than ever before, including services running well into the night and shuttle buses. We also have Park and Ride sites giving direct access to Manchester city centre and Sportcity.

"People are going to have to plan their journeys carefully and allow plenty of extra time and we have tried to make it as easy as possible for people to access public transport and information about it.

All spectators need to do to get some expert advice when planning their journey is make a phone call to the public transport information line, or visit GMPTE's website."
