ON Friday, December 6, my daughter and her friends from Horwich College did a sponsored walk for a local children's charity.

They all took time and effort in dressing up in fancy dress, and they came into Bolton town centre where they were told by one of the Ambassadors they could not collect money from the town centre and could only collect from the outskirts of Bolton. Even though they had a permit, they still could not collect in the town centre.

When my daughter came home and told me this, I was really disgusted. They are trying to raise money for a charity.

I work in the town centre and every day when I go out for lunch I am hounded by catalogue people; sign this you can win a holiday (in their dreams!); people selling Christmas goods -- the list is endless. Do these people have permits, I ask?
