Glass Roots enables you to discover how volcanos became glass factories, and why the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs used glass to emulate precious stones. With our advanced interactive touch screens you can witness the development of glassmaking from a chance discovery, to the glories of medieval England, Venice and machine-age mass production.

Earth Into Light will show you what it was like to be a Victorian teacher at the age of just 13. See how the glassmakers of St Helens lived in our recreated parlour dating back to 1816, or listen to tales and experiences of soldiers and civilians during World War II, through our state of the art audio links.

Cone Building

Step back to 1887 as you explore the only surviving glassmaking furnace of its kind in the world. You will discover why this furnace sparked a revolution and made St Helens into the glass capital of the world. Learn how glass was produced through the ages and why King James I and his Navy helped the evolution of glassmaking. Follow in the footsteps of 19th Century glassblowers as you walk through the labyrinth of furnace tunnels, and watch as a Victorian glassblower explains the secrets of glass production.

Glass Revolution uses the latest technology and 3D cinematography to give you the experience of a lifetime. You will travel through space and time as our state of the art audio visual show demonstrates how one material has changed our world... Forever.
