TEAM England have announced a vastly experienced men's hockey squad to compete at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games.

Five members of the 16-strong squad share more than 500 England caps and more than 200 Great Britain caps between them.

The squad includes Reading's Jon Wyatt, with 116 England caps and 72 appearances for Great Britain, as well as Guildford's Danny Hall, who with 98 England appearances to his name, could well pick up his 100th England cap at Manchester 2002.

Wyatt is one of eight members of the squad who helped England to a bronze medal at the last Commonwealths at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, four years ago, when England clinched third spot by beating India 5-3 on penalties.

The other survivors from the last Games are Simon Mason, Bill Waugh, Jimmy Wallis, Brett Garrard, Mark Pearn, Mike Johnson and Duncan Woods.

Tom Bertram's work commitments, Ben Sharpe's retirement and now Guy Fordham's broken thumb have all provided opportunities for some newcomers to the England team, despite a reduction in the squad size to 16 from the 18 selected for the World Cup.

Jon Peckett and Jason Collins are comparative newcomers and the experienced Duncan Woods returns to the group to replace Martin Jones up front.

Malcolm Wood, Head Coach of the men's hockey squad, said: "This will be a very tough tournament.

"We have added new players to the squad, we have had limited preparation time and have struggled to get appropriate matches leading into the tournament. But we are playing in front of our home crowd and will do our best to raise the profile of our sport in this country with the quality of our performances."

Hockey takes place at the Belle Vue Leisure Centre, beginning on July 26 ending on August 4.
