ANYONE daft enough to think it was wrong to dig up the track at Manchester's Commonwealth Games stadium need only to take a look at this week's European Athletics Championships in Munich writes Neil Bonnar

It is sad to lose the best athletics facility this country has had and is likely to have but the alternative would be even sadder.

Seeing 38,000 people whip up a storm of noise and atmosphere in the stadium every day for a week was magnificent and if that could be recreated 20 or 30 times a year for athletics it would justify keeping the track.
