Where? Oxford Road, Manchester, where else! It's just a two minute walk from Oxford Road train station which always comes in handy when you've had a few.

What?

Manchester's premier rock night spot. The entrance of Jillys does fool you about the actual size of the club. Inside it boasts three rooms each with its own theme and music style depending on what you are into. There's rock/metal, old metal and goth (which is quite scary when your wearing a Strokes T-shirt).

In Crowd?

As you might expect, you won't see a lot of Ben Sherman shirts inside. There is no dress code except to see who is wearing the most elaborate and outrageous outfit. The crowd is relatively young and excitable. Go between midnight and 2am to see the pit in full flow.

Handbag or Heavy metal?

Heaviest metal would be more fitting for Jillys. The volume is very loud and it can be overwhelming. Each room has its own DJ who each plays a mix plus new tunes with a few classics thrown in.

What's the Damage?

Paying £2.50 for a can of Red Stripe is quite pricey but what do you expect from a club in Manchester city centre. However, a wide selection is available so you are likely to get what you want.

Verdict?

A great night out if you're into the music or an experience if you're not. Be wary of train times so you don't get stranded in Manchester. Jillys is great for an all nighter, as it's open 8pm until 7am, cheap entry and a great atmosphere make it a must for many rock lovers.
