A PENSIONER from Liverpool whose beloved dog is on Death Row travelled more than 200 miles to lend her support to the Princess Royal who has been fined £500 and become the first member of the royal family to have a criminal record after one of her dogs bit two children.

Elizabeth Holland's bull terrier Rickson was less fortunate than Princess Anne when his owner pleaded guilty to the same offence under the Dangerous Dog Act.

Mrs Holland, 63, from Norris Green in Liverpool, admitted failing to control 14-month-old Rickson, who now faces being destroyed and is currently languishing in a pen in a Birkenhead dog pound pending an appeal.

Mrs Holland said she had written to the princess and travelled to Slough today to express her sympathy and support.

Although she has not had a reply, she shares an expert witness for her appeal in the form of Dr Roger Mugford, who gave evidence on the princess's behalf today.

Mrs Holland said: "I have a lot of sympathy for Princess Anne but I don't really know if it will help my case."

She is being represented by the Fury Defence Fund - Voluntary Canine Organisation.

Janet Payne, of the organisation, said: "Where there's life there's hope and we are still optimistic we can successfully appeal the destruction order on Mrs Holland's dog."
