PHOTOGRAPHS, tapes, live drama and workshops all feature in the new exhibition at the People's History Museum, at Bridge Street, Manchester.
Moving Stories: South Asian Communities in Manchester and Beyond features new photographs by the critically acclaimed photographer Tim Smith. Over the past 16 years Tim's imagery has been widely exhibited in this country and abroad.
To complement the photographs, Irna Qureshi, together with the museum's outreach officer Shams Rehman, will be collecting oral histories and the results of this will be heard in a listening booth designed and made by artist Gowri Savoor, styled around South Asia.
The diary of events planned throughout the exhibition's run include children's workshops for children and a variety of talks for adults.
Bolton's Eileen Murphy will direct monthly performances aimed at bringing the exhibition to life. Living History character, Nahid, will take audiences on a girl's journey, from the age of 12, in Pakistan, through to adulthood. This includes her journey to join her father in England. Actor Monica Patel will take on the role, written by playwright Anjum Malik. The play will then be adapted for schools and outreach work for community performances.
