LEIGH Harriers continued their good start to the cross country season at Rochdale's Springfield Park.

Lauren Howarth had one of her best runs, winning the Under 13s race in the second South East Lancs League meeting of the season. She made light of the one and half mile course, winning in 10.04.

Hannah Warburton ran well to finish fourth in 10.37 with Kristy Hogan 15th in 12.45. Overall the team finished third. In the boys U13s race Isaac McCann was sixth in 9.58.

Gemma Farley easily won the girls U15s race. Continuing her wining start to the season, Gemma finished over half a minute ahead of the field in 15.36.

Rebecca Howarth, who is improving with every race, was second in 16.14. Emma Morris was eighth in 17.24 and Kellie Thornton 16th in 19.39 as Leigh won the team prize.

Mike Goddard continued the team's winning success by romping to victory in 14.10. Tom Henders, in his first season, finished 10th in 15.21.

The U17s ladies team consolidated their place as leaders. Adele Swanton was second in 23.41; Lizzy Heaton third in 24.43; Amanda Fearnley fith in 26.14 and Emma Tongue sixth in 27.14.

The men's team, led by Sam Cooke, finished second. Cooke finished third in 21.03; Alex Urmston seventh in 21.48; Andy Edwards 10th in 23.25 and Tash Gallagher 11th in 25.29.

In the ladies race Marjorie Leigh was third O/50 in 27.46 and Eileen Castledine was sixth O/45 in 27.47.

In the senior men's race John Howarth led the team to fifth place, finishing eighth in 32.55. Phil Foster was 10th in 33.14; Martin Conroy 35.11; Andy Arnold 35.51; Tony Battersby 36.06; Dave Helps 37.17 and Keith Boardman 38.35. In the vet's O/60 race, Derek Howarth was first in a time of 44.30.
