A MAN who never had a driving licence nor held insurance cover has been jailed after being caught behind the wheel of a car.

Andrew Logan was seen by police driving his Alfa Romeo 164 in Bradshawgate in Bolton together with three passengers.

He refused to stop and fled at speed on to the Farnworth by-pass. The following police car said Logan was travelling faster than 94 mph.

When he was stopped, police discovered Logan had never held a driving licence nor had any insurance. He told police he was in the process of buying a car.

Logan, aged 21, of Whewell Avenue, Radcliffe, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence yesterday.

He admitted dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to surrender to custody.

Judge Derwent Hope jailed Logan for six months and banned him from driving for two years. Logan cannot get a licence until he passes an extended re-test.

Judge Hope said Logan posed a very serious risk to other road users and pedestrians and that he did not appear to understand the effects his dangerous driving had on others.

Prosecutor Richard Heap said on June 22 this year police followed the car until it was near the junction of Manchester Road and Green Lane when it slowed before accelerating away again on to the by-pass.

The police car had a Vascar unit which registered Logan's car as travelling between 86-94mph on the by-pass.

Logan's vehicle drove through built-up areas in Stoneclough at speeds reaching 70 mph and finally stopped in Outwood Road where Logan was arrested.
