WHEN Mrs Laura Melling (married to Geoff of the bakery family) died recently, her neighbour in Plodder Lane, Farnworth - Mr Raymond Smith - cleared out her effects, and among them he found this photograph of a mile of books which was laid along the streets during the war to raise money for the war effort.
He knows no more about it, or anyone on it, but I thought it worth recording.
