THESE two pictures have been sent to me by Mrs Anita Forth, of Hardmans, Higher Ridings, Bromley Cross, who tells me that in the picture of people playing "piggy", her father Bert Griffiths is "the one in the middle, making faces."

Bert was the landlord of the Spread Eagle, Hough Lane, for 19 years, and the picture was taken in 1977 during the Silver Jubilee celebrations.

"My father organised many activities for the locals, including darts and pool matches, and this game of 'piggy' which took place behind the Eagley Sports Club. I cannot remember the names of the other people, but they were all locals and customers at my father's pub." writes Mrs Forth.

The other picture she sent was also of a Royal occasion, but this time, as the banner suggests, it was not for the Coronation of Elizabeth 11, but in 1936 for George V1.

Mrs Forth says: "My aunt, Mrs Sally Hopley, of Horwich, loaned me the photograph because I had never seen a picture of my grandparents. My grandmother, Alice Griffiths, is on the back row left, in the party hat."
