I would love to be able to tell you all about this photograph, but I can't, simply because I cannot work out where it is. To be fair, I do know where it is, but I can't recognise it!

The aerial picture - which you can view by clicking HERE - was taken by former Bolton Evening News' photographer Jim Ashworth.

On the back, in his handwriting, it says: "A part of Chorley New Road. The section shown is near Lostock Junction Lane (hidden by the trees) on left. The pretty trim homes and villas with their multi-coloured gardens are a striking feature of the landscape."

Well, Jim may be right, but I live near this area and for the life of my I cannot work out where Lostock Junction Lane is. If that is Chorley New Road crossing the picture, then at the Lane the road should bend. And what is that road running towards the top of the picture - I don't see how it can be Victoria Road before Beaumont Road was constructed, and even if it is Regent Road, it still confuses me. I have shown it to various people who know the district, but none of us can work it out (or indeed, when it was taken, because no date is given). I have no doubt that somewhere among the readership of this column, someone can give me the correct details. I look forward to hearing from you.
