BURY entertain Torquay United at Gigg Lane tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) with two massive targets in their sights.

To secure the goal that would break the club's record of scoring in 18 consecutive games and to pick up three points that will force them to the forefront of the Third Division promotion chase.

Jon Newby's 90th minute consolation strike in the Worthington Cup defeat at Fulham on Wednesday saw the Shakers equal that club record, achieved in the 1960-61 Third Division championship season.

And after the recent run of six unbeaten games shot them into the top six of the division, manager Andy Preece is desperate for his charges to grab a victory that will keep them among the pacesetters for at least two more weeks.

Tomorrow's game is followed by a couple of cup matches both at home against Second Division opponents.

Barnsley are the visitors in the LDV Vans Trophy on Tuesday evening, while Plymouth Argyle visit Gigg next Saturday in the first round of the FA Cup.

But it's winning league games that Preece sees as a priority right now. Tragically, for the Shakers, they will go into tomorrow's game without influential midfielder Terry Dunfield, who is expected to be out until March after injuring his shoulder on Wednesday.

Preece said: "It looks quite serious and could be a three-or-four-month job.

"It's a big blow as Terry's been one of our key players in recent weeks."

Also likely to be missing from the line-up is Lenny Johnrose, who is unlikely to have recovered from his hamstring strain in time for tomorrow.

Leroy Rosenior's side have been something of a Jekyll and Hyde outfit so far this season.

After embarking on a nine-game unbeaten run, they pushed themselves up into second place in the table before losing their next four matches.

Since then they have crushed the highly-rated Bournemouth side 4-0 and it's anyone's guess which Devonian entity will turn out at Gigg tomorrow.

They have recently signed promising Blackburn Rovers young midfielder Darren Dunning on loan and boast, in leading scorer David Graham, one of the most prolific strikers in the division.

Graham, a former Scottish Under-18 international has bagged 11 goals from his last 12 games and the former Rangers star is rebuilding his career after losing his way somewhat.

"Torquay are a decent passing side from the reports we have heard," said Preece.

"Leroy Rosenior is doing well down there and we will have to be on top of our game from the start.

"But it's a great chance for us to kick on and establish ourselves among the league's frontrunners.

Supporters are reminded that tomorrow's match is yet another Quid A Kid game. Kick-off 3pm.
